The BOYA BY-M1 has a 3.5mm jack, which is used to connect to any smartphone. It also comes with a Button cell, which can be inserted in the slot provided. This makes it easier to use it with DSLRs and big cameras. It works fine with smartphones and laptops, and the build quality is okay.
This microphone is omnidirectional. It picks up noise as well. To reduce noise, you should close the door to the recording room. Also, you must reduce the fan speed to low or turn it off. After recording video or sound, you can easily remove noise with Audacity or Adobe Audition. This mic has a long cable with it; it will be used nicely. When I used it, I felt it was okay for its cheap price tag.
The only problem I noticed was that you must remove noise from the audio. If not, it will feel uncomfortable in the case of outdoor shooting. It can be ideal for Interviews and indoor recording. If you are looking for a microphone to start a YouTube channel, then this is perfect.
